Finding the Beauty in Pandemic Life

During these unprecedented times of hardship, as we all live and learn to cope with restrictions on our lives due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Beaux Arts has launched an art exhibition focused on presenting the moments of beauty and joy that continue to permeate our lives.

Envisioned by our Gallery Committee team, “Everything Beaux” is an exhibition which invited artists to submit their interpretations of everything they find beautiful. Using the French translation of “beautiful”, this title also pays homage to our namesake—Beaux Arts Brampton.

This beauty can be found within our homes, our relationships, our neighbourhoods, our new ways of connecting and the steadfastness of mother-nature outside our windows. This show recognizes the capacity for art to transcend the physical separation that this pandemic requires—connecting artist to viewer and human to human.

“The Beaux-tiful thing about this show is that it helps us re-envision the beauty in the world around us by sharing it with one another, as we await the chance to share that same beauty in-person again,” explains Gallery Committee Chair, Tyler Andrews.

The gallery committee had a difficult time choosing from the 75 unique submissions that this show attracted, of which 40 pieces made it into the show. The artworks on display provide points of light into the lives of its viewers, as we reach the one-year anniversary of our pandemic isolation.

This show has also demonstrated the importance of artists in the current economy.

Alexandra Hicks of the Brampton Guardian notes that while “The pandemic has hit the arts community especially hard, […] this collective of local artists have created pieces that celebrate beauty, warmth, light and happiness.”

Managing Director, Regan Hayward tells the Guardian “that this exhibit is a reminder that “art and culture still exists, and we contribute to that mosaic.”

This show also received warm press coverage from the Bramptonist and Peel Weekly News, in addition to being featured in a Culture Update from the City of Brampton.

While this show is currently hanging in our gallery, in true pandemic fashion, Beaux Arts had to pivot to online programming as Ontario entered lockdown this weekend. Thankfully, this past year has given our team experience in shifting to online programming. While we hope to open our doors once it is safe, all of the artworks in “Everything Beaux” can be found on our website, paired with individual artists statements from the creators themselves.

We encourage you to visit our website to view a selection of artworks that is sure to soothe your sensory stressors from this pandemic. We also invite audiences to tell us about their favourite artworks on social media, as part of our “People’s Choice Award.” For a list of exhibiting artists and artwork, please visit https://www.beauxartsbrampton.org/current-exhibition
